I enjoyed this book overall。 It was certainly an above average self-improvement book, but it wasn't groundbreaking, so I think about a 3。8 is my score for it。 I will say though that I read a lot of these kinds of books, so if I read this one 10 years ago, it likely would have blown my mind and I'd probably give it a 5。I loved the 4 laws of habit forming。 This was one of those books where the author says things I already feel like I know, but he puts the ideas into words in a way I haven't heard I enjoyed this book overall。 It was certainly an above average self-improvement book, but it wasn't groundbreaking, so I think about a 3。8 is my score for it。 I will say though that I read a lot of these kinds of books, so if I read this one 10 years ago, it likely would have blown my mind and I'd probably give it a 5。I loved the 4 laws of habit forming。 This was one of those books where the author says things I already feel like I know, but he puts the ideas into words in a way I haven't heard or thought of before, so the ideas seem new and inventive。 The 4 laws though make it seem so simple to start new habits and to stop current habits。 It seems like he figured it out the formula。 However, I started thinking that it isn't easy to actually execute those laws。 Then he pulls out the idea that you don't have to start a full habit immediately, but that you can start one at a very scaled back level。 For example, if you want to start a reading habit, you dont have to read a book a week, but you can start by just reading one page a day。 Eventually read 2 pages a day, and so on, but the key is to not miss more than two days in a row or it ceases to be a habit。 So start small, and eventually the habit gets to where you want it, and it becomes automatic where you don't even have to think; you just do it。The ideas in this were great, but the writing was a little dry for me。 It seemed like the author could have put more of his personality into the writing to make a little more fun to read。I liked the short chapters and the summaries at the end of each chapter。 I'm probably going to re-read this one in a couple years。 。。。more

Lauren Savill,
Really useful tips in here。 I usually prefer a physical book because I don't pay attention to audiobooks but listened to this as an audiobook on Libby which worked really well as if my brain wandered it was pretty easy to pick back up。 Also is a little repetitive in places so it didn't matter if I missed a few lines。 Some great case studies too。 Really useful tips in here。 I usually prefer a physical book because I don't pay attention to audiobooks but listened to this as an audiobook on Libby which worked really well as if my brain wandered it was pretty easy to pick back up。 Also is a little repetitive in places so it didn't matter if I missed a few lines。 Some great case studies too。 。。。more
LukeFlux,
James Clear managed to connect every day habits / scenarios with actual scientific and psychological evidences。 This exact combination made the book a good and enjoyable read。 Clear and very objective content clustering were also a plus。
Alex,
Listened to the audiobook on a road trip。 Some very solid advice, though appropriately enough given the author’s past would occasionally feel a little like listening to a life hack newsletter compilation。 The author’s voice also sounds almost identical to John Krasinski’s, so after a while it felt like I was on a Zoom conference call about productivity led by Jim Halpert。 So automatic point deduction for that。
More like a 3。5 star book。 Really liked the practical structure and chapter summaries, but the content was not revelatory。 Maybe that’s the point。
Dylan,
Some interesting and useful tips and techniques。 At times it feels pseudosciency。

Probably the best book I’ve read。 It breaks down the strategies into actionable pieces which are easy to follow。 I loved the story writing and examples shared throughout the book。 Makes it so effortless to remember even long after you’ve finished the book。

Genesis,
I like how he introduces each chapter with a story which would be an example or analogy of the topic he will discuss。 However, the very first of this—his introduction to the book—starts with his own story about his injury from baseball。 I still don’t understand its relevance to atomic habits。
